Curt Gowdy State Park Visitor’s Center – LEED Gold Certified
We Worked On
Sustainable Building Services, LLC provided LEED consulting and project management services.
The Curt Gowdy State Park Visitor's Center opened the fall of 2013. . The two-level facility incorporates orientation and visitors’ service areas, a great hall, a multi-purpose meeting room, offices, a fee payment station, restroom and shower facilities, and a 1,500 sq. ft. interpretive center. Designed to meet LEED gold standards, the 6,506sqft building features passive solar design, active solar heating and natural ventilation for cooling along with energy and water conservation systems. The facility incorporated the use of beetle-kill lumber, harvested and milled less than a mile from the site. Park crews were able to provide all of the log columns, sawn timber framing, and wood paneling for the project from what would have been otherwise wasted resources.
